Donnie McClurkin: Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs
This double-disc recorded live, is must have for any bass player, in today's Gospel/Worship genre. Donnie McClurkin's "Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs" is so diverse, that I dare say, if you shed this 2 disc, set you will be ready to play just about anything that comes your way. Darrell Freeman is absolutely a beast, if you didn't already know, he solidified himself, in gospelbasslines' list top bassist on this performance, holding it down with an allstar cast of musicians, including a 40 piece orchestra.
Darrell quickly captures your attention, by laying down an solid, fluid line, in the songs introductory track "Days of Elijah", and his playing never relents. Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs covers a wide range of sub-genres within Gospel music, from contemporary to old-school congregational songs. We found every single track to be strong, no matter your mood, or what you have an incling to listen to, this CD will rise to the occassion. I am reminded of when we have a high time in the worship service at Church, and songs just flow right into another, like when "Agnus Dei", flows so effortlessly into "Draw Me Close/I Am Thine O Lord", I find myself closing my eyes as I listen (except when in the car) and just reflecting on the Lord.
The skill level of the musicians is evident in this recording, as of now, this CD is in heavy rotation, and hands down one of the best CD's I own. If you haven't purchased yourself a copy of this CD, and are serious about being a solid bass player, don't delay, its a must have.
